His Mission

JESUS IS THE ONE WHO DEFINES THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH. HIS MISSION IS TOLD IN THE STORY OF THE BIBLE TAUGHT IN FOUR MOVEMENTS: CREATION, FALL, REDEMPTION, AND RESTORATION.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” ~Matt. 28:18-20

Go therefore and make disciples...
The church is God's people pursuing the mission Jesus challenged them to follow at the end of his earthly ministry. We believe that the community at Canyon Creek is one of many communities trying to fulfill this mission to be the church. We desire to fulfill the mission of Christ by being a people connected to the call Jesus has for each one of us.

teaching them to observe all that I have commanded...
We are guided by the Words of God found in Scripture. Furthermore, we believe these words teach one story about how God draws His people to Himself.

This story is told in four separate acts: Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration:

CREATION

Jesus taught that he was present at the beginning of the world and that he created everything, including us, for his glory. As such, we were created to reflect his glory and perfection.

FALL

Jesus allowed his creation to fall when sin entered the world. Like Adam, each of us has strayed from our original purpose leading to consequences of sorrow, suffering, difficulty in this life, and ultimately, eternal separation from Jesus. By ourselves, we are not able to recover from this fall in spite of our best efforts to be good.

REDEMPTION

However, by sacrificing himself, Jesus chose to redeem his beloved creation. Because of Their great love for us, the Father sent him into this world to reclaim all those whom He has chosen. Those who believe in their hearts and confess with their mouths that Jesus took the sinner’s place on the cross and conquered death once and for all are graciously given the right to live in perfect union with him for eternity.

RESTORATION

Followers of Jesus are being transformed daily by the work of the Holy Spirit. This work will continue until Jesus returns to usher in a New Heaven and a New Earth, a holy kingdom over which he has complete rule and authority. In his kingdom every tear will be dried, every scar will be healed, and every groan will be silenced. We will be His people and He will be our God forever. It is a beautiful mystery described by the Apostle Peter as imperishable, undefiled and unfading; a paradise, unlike anything we can fully comprehend.
