Advent 2018

December 04, 2018
CCPC
In the Gospels, Jesus has a lot to say about His Advent. He knows why He came, Who sent Him, why He was sent in the way He was sent, His mission, what was not included in His mission, the motives behind His mission, why he was born in a common manger, and why the angels said, "For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."  As we begin our season of Advent this Sunday join us as we will celebrate His coming and reflect on Jesus' own explanation of His Advent.

One Word

October 28, 2018
CCPC
We are beginning a new series of five messages. The series is entitled, "One Word". We will look at five words, one at a time. These are Greek or Hebrew Biblical words that are beautiful and significant; words like Shalom, Maranatha, and Koinonia. First in the series is the word "Selah". It is found 71 times in the Psalms and has a beautiful basic meaning: It means Pause and weighs the truth of what you have just heard. Sunday we will look at Psalm 46 (it mentions "Selah" three times) and together we will Pause and Be Still and Know that He ...

Gospel Rhythms

September 05, 2018
Travis Marsh
God designed us to live in rhythm with Him. Sin has disrupted this rhythm. Jesus rescues us from this breakdown in human flourishing and establishes us in proper relationship to God and His rhythm for our life. Our want is to intimately meet with Jesus every day as we grow deeper in our union with Him. The first three weeks of the series will focus on daily practices that will bring renewal to our soul. The second half of the series will teach us how to go out into the world and walk with Christ bringing the gospel to the world. Join us ...

Church for Everyone

April 13, 2018
Travis Marsh
The letter of Ephesians was written to help people gain an understanding of Jesus and His church. Paul was an early leader in the church and it was his responsibility to establish new churches in towns where they had never been before. At the time the letters in the New Testament were written, "the church" was a brand new thing. New Believers did not know what they were doing or how to go about growing their faith, much less how to share the gospel message of Jesus.   Paul’s most beloved church was the church in Ephesus. He spent his ...

Great Prayers in the Bible

March 13, 2018
Travis Marsh
The first prayer we will look at is the kind of prayer you might pray when you are humbled by tragic circumstances of your own making. In these moments, we often have our greatest clarity of thinking, we see reality and our own weaknesses and some of us finally call out to God for help. An example of this kind of prayer in the Bible is Samson’s one and only humble and faith-filled prayer (Judges 16:28). The prayer comes at the tragic end of his life yet this request is everything God intended for Samson's destiny. God had designed, purposed ...

Ruth - Common People Living By Faith

February 05, 2018
Travis Marsh
Ruth is a love story. It provides a glimpse into the world of common everyday people who are used by God to move forward in His plan to rescue the world. This is a book championing the human journey in serving God faithfully through loss, fear, struggle, and want. It is a story ultimately about the provision of the Lord both in His redeeming love and His power to restore all things to right order. Ruth offers hope and wisdom to tackle the everyday moments in life and provide insight for growing in Christ. Join us as we walk through the book ...

Trouble Nextdoor

January 04, 2018
Marty Scales
From the beginning of time, we humans have had trouble with each other. The intensity, fierceness or public revelation of that inter-human trouble comes in many different gradations; some of us are covert while others are undisguised about their distress. Over the next four weeks, we would like to address some of the common troubles we humans have with each other, the agitation and unpleasantness that is often revealed using social media. We will ask ourselves: How would Jesus instruct us to act and/or react when these kinds of troubles ...

Advent Adoration of the King

November 29, 2017
Travis Marsh
You might not be aware that the season of Advent is both remembrance (of Christ's first coming) and anticipation (of Christ's second coming).  Advent is much more than the wonderful story of the baby Jesus being born to be our Savior.  It is also the anticipation of His coming again, the yet to be fulfilled promise of his return in glory with his angels, to sit upon his glorious throne (Matt. 25:31).  This Advent season Travis and Marty will lead us to celebrate both the remembrance of the baby in the manger, as well as the promised second ...

Pursuing Happiness

September 20, 2017
Marty Scales
Blaise Pascal stated: "All men seek happiness. This is without exception. Whatever different means they employ, they all tend to this end." I think this is true; we humans may pursue happiness in different ways, but we all seek it.  And we inform each other in both bold and more subtle ways what we believe will make humans happy. We sometimes believe myths and never find happiness: That ongoing perception that our life as a whole is fulfilling, meaningful and pleasant. In this series we will look at some of the ideas flowing from leading ...

Empower people to Pursue Their Call in Christ Over the next month, Canyon Creek will spend Sunday morning’s working out the meaning of our new mission statement. We believe this statement captures who we are and our passion to see the gospel message spread to every corner of our valley and the world. It is our passion and mission as a church to see the Word of God preached and to see that preached word impact our actions in the real world. Join us over the next month as we learn what it means to be a church empowered by Jesus to do his ...

The Gospel According to David

April 20, 2017
Marty Scales
The life of King David, with all his flaws, victories and defeats, is great for us to study and reflect upon. David's heart and mind are exposed in the narrative of the books of Samuel and in David's poetry found in the Psalms. Because we see both the very good and the very worst of his motives and desires, we can inspect our own hearts to see if we are men and women after God's own heart, or still under construction. We can clearly see our need for the servant King who sacrifices his life for us.

Easter Experience

April 05, 2017
Marty Scales
The Christian Church has called this coming week "Holy Week" because it is the focus of God's great redemptive effort on our behalf. First we see Jesus walking into Jerusalem where some shout "Hosanna", joyfully welcoming Him as their hoped for King. But soon powerful enemies will take Him in order to stop His movement and arrest His influence. On the day that thousands of lambs were being offered as Passover sacrifices, Jesus too was sacrificed. They thought they were executing a dangerous false teacher but instead Jesus was allowing them to ...

Pictures - Sermon Series

February 23, 2017
Marty Scales
In the Scriptures there are several Pictures or metaphors that help us to understand God and his desire to have relationship with us. When you think about it, you realize that God is far different from the humans he created. How can we possibly relate to the One who is so far above and beyond us? It's good to know that He desires relationship and calls us to come to Him. In this series, we will see that we can come to Him like a sheep to its Shepherd, like a vine to its Owner, like a branch to a Vine, like a bride to a Groom or like a subject ...

Attached - Sermon Series

January 01, 2017
CCPC
Most of us would say that we are “Attached”. We have relationships with other people ranging from mere Acquaintance to Friendships, to the highly significant Attachment of Marriage and Family. These relationships bring us many of the things we most desire in life; they also surprise us with unexpected moments of difficulty and pain. The Bible is remarkably full of candid stories of relationships and interestingly, most of them are examples of what not to do. We Christians, because of God’s work in us, are called to something new. We are ...

Christmas is a special time of the year, especially to followers of Jesus Christ. For hundreds of years the church has called the season Advent, celebrating the arrival of the savior, Christ the Lord. This year at Canyon Creek Church, we too will light the four candles of Advent and weekly celebrate the Advent themes of hope, love, joy, and peace. Come join us.

Becoming Distinctly Christian

August 17, 2016
Marty Scales
Paul's letter to the church he planted in the city of Philippi is one of his most informal, pastoral, intimate and popular. For the next several weeks we are going to study this letter and specifically search for the Apostle's understanding of what it means to be Distinctly Christian. In this letter filled with warmth, encouragement, instruction and joy we will find important marks or traits of a Christian that we can endeavor to pursue. Watch Sermons Here

What does it mean to think like Jesus and then respond practically to this new way of thinking?
